We are at the city centre, in the Albaicin
Being located in the Albaicín there are so many things to do around and such an interesting history behind this neighborhood. An enigmatic quarter that continues to be an inspiration to artists, writers and travelers and that maintains the layout of Medieval Moorish narrow streets. With its well kept traditional houses, the area has retained its old charm and is the ideal place to discover Moorish architecture, Albaicín is specially famous for its dramatic views overlooking the Alhambra palace.
Of course, we will give you as well all the information you need about the place that you probably have organized your visit around, the magnificent Alhambra. Named several times as the most visited monument in Spain. The palace that housed the king and the court of the Kingdom of Granada Nazari. It was built for the court of the Nasrid dynasty. Years after the conquest of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492, because its amazing beauty, some portions were conserved and used by Christian rulers. Alhambra was rediscovered in the 19th century by European scholars and travelers, which gave it the importance that it worth. Exhibiting the country’s most significant and well known Islamic architecture and being nowadays a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the inspiration for many songs and stories.
Neighbourhoods in the old city
You will hear of course about all the other neighborhoods in the city. The Realejo, a picturesque area famous for displaying amazing street art specially from one of the most famous street artist in Granada known as “El Niño de las Pinturas”. The Sacromonte and their famous cave houses. During the XVI century, a mix of Muslims, Jews and Gypsies, expelled from their homes started to occupy this hill in the outskirts of Granada. What begun to be basic holes in the mountain, became proper houses with different rooms and facilities. Nowadays, this neighborhood shows the historic caves and some other new caves occupied by modern hippies who come to Granada from around the world.
Once we have finished explaining all the beautiful places and neighborhoods in Granada it’s time to explain about our amazing activities, many of the places we have mentioned are included in our tours and hikes.
