in the city of Granada:

La Alhambra
This palace-fortress of the rulers of the last Spanish Moorish kingdom is the most exciting, sensual and romantic of all European monuments.
  • €10 entry fee (for everything)

Albayzin
The Albayzin is the old Arabic quarter located on the hill opposite the Alhambra. It is characterised by cobble stoned streets with white washed houses. There are many squares with terazas and places to laze about and have a bite to eat.

Catedral
As is the case of most Christian buildings in Granada, the Cathedral was built on the site of the former Mosque. Work on the cathedral began on 15th March 1523 and it was not completed until 1704, 180 years later as building stopped during the plague.

Calle de las Teterias
Along Calderia Vieja and Calderia Nueva, twisting laneways of antiquity that climb the hill into the heart of the old Muslim town, the Albayzin, Arab shops proffer handicrafts from Morocco, sweets from Jerusalem and the spices of Arabia. Softly lit tea houses promise mint tea and water pipes, evoking the hospitality of ancient Persia.

Sacromonte (Caves)
The gypsies arrived about 600 years ago and one of the places where they congregated was in the caves of the Sacromonte. The mixture of Arabic influence combined with the particular lifestyle and temperament of the gypsies created Flamenco.

Sacromonte (Flamenco)
Venta a El Gallo offers you the opportunity of experiencing the real art of flamenco originating from the legendary caves of Sacromonte. The flamenco dance will be performed by artists who are direct descendants of many famous names in the flamenco world. It is situated in the heart of the Sacromonte with splendid panoramic views.

Mirador de San Nicolas
The Albayzin is an oil painter's paradise and almost at every turn of the head there is an attractive view, almost always involving glimpses of the Alhambra. You will be sure to read the oft quoted refrain: Give him alms woman because there is nothing as bad as being blind in Granada. Go to Mirador de San Nicolas and you will see what they mean.

Monasterio la Cartuja
You'll not find a more lavish baroque interior in the whole of Spain. The church belonging to this Carthusian monastery abounds with coloured marble, jasper and porphyry as well as displaying paintings by Juan Sanchez de Cotan. The building was started in 1516 and finished 300 years later.

Plaza de Toros
Bullfights are held in season (March to November) at the Plaza de Toros on Avenida del Doctor Olariz 25. The bullring’s ticket office (tel 958 271 950) or any of the tourist offices has details of upcoming corridas.

day trips from Granada:

Alpujarras
La Alpujarra is a spectacularly beautiful region within the Sierra Nevada National Park. The region's natural beauty and that of its villages attracts walkers, hikers and trekkers from all over the world, even in winter.

Cahorros de Monachil
For nature lovers, hikers and climbers this is a perfect destination. Full of wildlife, rivers, valleys, caves and beautiful views, there are endless routes to explore and discover.

El Torcal
Due to its unusual limestone rock formations, Torcal de Antequera Natural Park boasts an impressive landscape that is considered to be unique in the world. Its 1,171 hectares have often been used in science fiction films. It is easy to get lost while walking in its labyrinth of rocks, depressions and valleys, passages, landings and narrow passes.

Guejar Sierra
During summer, Oasis staff will take you to explore this beautiful location just a short bus ride outside of Granada. Take a swim in the river, relax in the sun and enjoy a picnic. A great way to relax and renew after the hardships of travelling.

La Herradura
The beautiful bay of La Herradura is the envy of Almuñecar and one of the prettiest bays along the south coast of Spain. The 2 km long sand beach is one of the principal attractions to the area. Unlike almost anywhere along the coast, development has been restricted in height and you can still enjoy the contours of the natural setting.

Nerja
Here you find 16 kms of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. All major water sports are available including water skiing, scuba diving and sailing. However the most spectacular historic monument is the Nerja caves. Located 3 km from the centre of town is an archaeological cave containing the world's widest column.

Salobreña
The jewel of the Costa Tropical, Salobreña is a whitewashed township clinging to huge lump of rock just back from the shoreline, topped by a Moorish castle and surrounded by lush sugar cane plantations.

Sierra Nevada
Sierra Nevada is Europe's most southern ski resort. The resort is located 32 km from the centre of Granada and is only a 50-minute drive.
The highest summit of the Sierra Nevada range is Mulhacen at 3,481 metres, the highest ski lift and piste goes to just below Veleta which is at 3,398 metres.

Sierra Nevada (Ski)
The ski season normally lasts from the beginning of December until the end of April or beginning of May. Andalusia has a very high proportion of sunny days even in the winter and usually it is possible to ski with beautiful blue skies and warm temperatures.

Santa Fe (hot springs)
Bathe naturally in the hot springs of Santa Fe. Just a short ride from Granada, spend a relaxed evening soaking in the natural baths and revitalise your muscles.
